Huh. That actually makes a lot of sense, despite being totally nonensical.

It follows gameplay mechanics rather well. Plus, it shows continuity.
Can trainers see PP numbers?
I would imagine that that would be crucial as well….
Well… maybe if it was shown via the Pokedex.
… Do they have Pokedexes? I really can’t even remember if it was ever even mentioned.
But in the games you can see the health bar without the pokedex
Ah, but maybe the battle screen shown in the games is actually being seen on the Pokedex, while the actual battle is going on offscreen!
But in ruby/sapphire/emerald, when you have to save the proffesor you fight the wild pokemon and after that he gives you the pokedex, and in that battle you can see HP and PP…
Plus in G/S/C/HG/SS you have to go all the way up to that one guy’s lab-house-thing, which is past the second town, to get a pokedex. Meaning you encounter a lot of wild pokemon on your way.
And I think in D/P/Pt you have to go see the professor before you actually get your pokedex, which means both a battle with your rival and walking through tall grass to get to the second town.
In those instances those pokemon are probably so low level that they end up showing their health by the strength in their legs or something. So basically, yes the pokedexs are used to tell the health and pp, but they aren’t necessary either.
