There was no crossdressing during the Summer Episode (aside from Mr. N trying to get himself and Mr. Black into those bathing suits), and some of the battle outfits are more tame now then they were at the start.
There has been cross-dressing from (nearly) the start, but it’s definitely not the focal-point of the comic, nor is it the basis of most of the humor. Personally I always thought that it was there for Parodies, shout-outs and acknowledgements to Popular Culture and such.
